99th Spring PERF Meeting – Measurement Challenges in the Petroleum Industry
When: May 8-9, 2019
Where: National Physical Laboratory in Teddington TW11 0LW, United Kingdom (Near London)
Registration: Please register for this event using the following link https://perf2019.eventbrite.co.uk
The event is free to attend and open to all but will be of importance to people from industry, academia, or government with a specific interest around health and safety and environmental challenges in the petroleum industry.
About NPL: NPL is the UK’s National Measurement Institute (NMI) and is a world-leading centre of excellence in developing and applying the most accurate measurement standards, science and technology available. For more than a century, NPL has developed and maintained the nation’s primary measurement standards. These standards underpin an infrastructure of traceability throughout the UK and the world that ensures accuracy and consistency of measurement. NPL ensures that cutting-edge measurement science and technology have a positive impact in the real world, and delivers world-leading measurement solutions critical to research and development, supporting businesses across the globe.
Theme: The theme for the meeting will be “Measurement Challenges in the Petroleum Industry”. A team comprised of PERF companies will build the agenda around measurement challenges with environmental media (air, water and land) and health & safety.
Developments to technology and regulation are driving considerable change in the Petroleum industry; new sensor technology is available for measuring and monitoring GHG and VOCs; new regulations require careful data analysis and interpretation. Developing “Confidence” in data should be a cross-cutting theme for the event, embedding measurements into end-to-end process and decision making through use of digital technologies and infrastructure. This includes:
- “Collection” – improved efficiency of sensors
- “Connection” – improved and safe communication between devices
- “Comprehension” – complete information including provenance, uncertainty and weighting
